What to Read in 2024
One of my favorite things to watch for is a list of anticipated books coming out in the new year.
2024 has a long list of great authors ready to share their words with us. I made a short list of the top 8 I have either heard about or am eagerly waiting to read myself.
Come and Get it by Kiley Reid
It’s 2017 at the University of Arkansas, when Millie gets an unusual opportunity. She just wants to graduate, get a job and have a normal life. But things don’t go as planned. This tension filled story jumps from bad behavior to indiscretion as Millie takes chances she might regret.
Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange
This is a follow-up book to his bestseller There There. Wandering Stars follows a survivor of Sand Creek Massacre in 1864. The story has narratives in both past and present tracing a family legacy of three generations who have experienced unimaginable trauma and violence.
Funny Story by Emily Henry
Feel-good fiction, this is how it’s listed. And it’s true, Emily Henry has given us a handful of feel-good reads. This one is about starting new chapters after losing at love. Two ex’s end up roommates and of course there are plots to make the other ex’s jealous, but adventures ensue that just might push these two heart broken ex’s together… Sounds like a vacation read to me! Take me to the beach please.
The Fury by Alex Michaelides
A suspenseful thriller, yes please. The Fury takes us on a mystery tour to solve a murder. A reclusive movie star and her friends take a trip to a private Greek island to escape the winter weather. Somehow years of built up revenge and anger take over as the friends are cut off on a secluded island. The night ends with a murder.
The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins
When Ruby dies, she is the richest and most notorious woman in North Carolina. Her son Camden wants nothing to do with the money or house. Ten years later Cam gets pulled back to the family drama after an uncle dies. Rumors and multiple deaths under suspicious circumstances bring questions to the surface that need solving. Even beyond the grave the bonds of family are strong.
Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth
Sisters, secrets, love and murder! A thrilling page-turner about sisters who grew up with a foster mother who from the outside looked loving and their life idyllic, but she was not to be crossed. When a body is discovered under the house they grew up in, the sisters become witnesses or maybe suspects.
The Life Impossible by Matt Haig
A retired teacher is left a run-down house by a long lost friend. Grace heads to the little island to find out what happened to her forgotten friend. But first she must come to terms with her own past before the strange truth is found out about her friend. Filled with adventure and new beginnings this story is sure to remind us there is much in the world we don’t understand.
The Women by Kristin Hannah
Women can be heroes. In 1965 Frankie joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows her brother to Vietnam. But the battle is also coming home to a different America after the war. This is a novel about friendship, patriotism and a heroine who was courageous even in a time when women were not recognized as such.
There you have it, my top 8 must read books of 2024.
